North East - “Shangrila : Rhinos, Monasteries and Hidden Tribes”

Kaziranga National Park – sometime known as India’s Serengeti, in Assam has to be the most beautiful and attractive place you can choose to visit in Northeastern India. An UNESCO World Heritage Site - Kaziranga’s 470 sq.kms of lush green flood plains is home to some of most fascinating wildlife of Asia. Kaziranga is popularly known as a home of the ‘Big Five’ – the Asian Elephant, One Horned Rhinoceros, Wild Buffalo, Bengal Tiger and Swamp Deer. It is also a birders paradise with an astonishing 500 species recorded.  Overnight accommodation is a beautiful Assam-style bamboo lodge is surrounded by lofty trees, creepers, bamboo groves and gardens. Experienced naturalists of this lodge will be your guide as you ride on an elephant back in the early hours of dawn in search of the one horned rhinocerous.

From Kaziranga further east to Dibrugarh, where surrounded by lush green tea gardens in the largest tea producing region in the world. Here you spend a night in a heritage tea bungalow. In the mornings you are invited to go horseback riding through the tea gardens and visits to a local community village. From here your trip gets more and more fascinating and a beautiful cruise on the massive Brahmaputra river takes you to a riverside camping for the evening. This is tribal territory and your accomodation will be with the Khampti tribes in delightful and comfortable bamboo huts on stilts with room service. This is the Dibru-Saikhowa National Park. Your expedition will cross virgin tropical rain forests using the only means available  -  an elephant safari through the Nameri Tiger Reserve. Your hosts will be the Chakma tribe. This is the triangle between India, Burma(Myanmar) and China and was the scene of fierce battles between Allied Anglo US Marines and the Japanese Army in World War II. Your guide will take you to a fascinating journey of old battlefields and cemeteries on a Second World War reminiscent memory lane.

Remote, untouched and virgin to the international tourist circuit – this North East  trip is something you have never experienced before.
